Once the drive is connected to the USB port of your computer, turn the drive on with the power switch located at the rear of the drive.
Installing DVD Burning Software.
The M-WRITER drive is designed to work with most DVD burning software on Windows, Linux and Mac. This includes commercially available software, as well as any DVD burning application that comes with the operating system. You may also visit these links to download a simple DVD burning application.
Note: Windows 2000 or XP may not have DVD burning software pre-installed.
Burning your first M-DISC.
Like other DVD writers, the M-WRITER drive requires DVD burning software to transfer data to the M-DISC after it is connected to the computer. We have outlined some basic guidelines below.
Mac OS X
Connect the M-WRITER drive to the USB port of your Mac and insert an M-DISC into the loading tray. From the drop down prompt menu that appears, select “Open in Finder”. You can now drag files you would like to burn into the “Blank Disc” window. After all the files are transferred, click “Burn” located at the top right corner of the blank disc window. The Mac will then burn, verify and finalize the write.
Windows Vista and 7
The first time the M-WRITER drive is connected through the USB port and recognized by the PC, a message of “Installing device driver software” will appear. Another message of “Your devices are ready to use” will indicate that the drivers are completely installed.
To burn a file using the default software in Windows, open My Computer and drag the files you wish to burn onto the disc drive icon associated with the M-Writer drive, typically identified by a letter such as D, E or F. insert an M-DISC into the loading tray of the M-WRITER drive and close the tray when a message asking you to insert a disc appears. The message ”Preparing this blank disc” will appear followed by the drive burning the disc. After the burning of the files is complete, eject the disc using the eject button on the front of the M-WRITER drive. The message “preparing to eject” appears and the disc tray will open.
For more information on using the Windows Vista or Windows 7 DVD burning software please refer to www.microsoft.com.
Windows XP
Windows XP does not have a DVD burning software application installed by default with the operating system. You may use a commercial application, such as Nero® or Roxio®, or you can visit www.millenniata.com to find a link to download simple DVD burning software for XP. Please follow the instructions for the software application of your choice.
Linux
Most Linux distributions include DVD burning applications that will work with the M-WRITER drive. Please refer to the support site of your distribution for information about those burning applications.
The M-WRITER drive will only work with M-DISC products. The M-WRITER drive uses higher power laser energy to etch data into the M-DISC products, it will not work with other types of commonly available recordable discs. Please visit this link or your distributor to purchase M-DISC products.
